Ye Stewart Clan Starts a New Chapter

It is with mixed emotions that Ye Stewart Clan announces that we are moving from Washington, D.C. to Salt Lake City, UT.  Jeremy decided to accept a job offer from a firm in Salt Lake City, so in a couple months he'll start working here (the office building, not the temple):

That means that Ye Stewart Clan is officially looking to fulfill its main 2011 New Year's resolution by finding a home to buy.  When we set that goal, we thought we would be buying in D.C. (and indeed we tried to buy multiple homes in D.C. this year), but now we're hoping to find something in this general area:

Specific recommendations are certainly welcome.  This all happened so fast that it's been hard for us to process all of the changes, and every once in a while we just stop and look at each other and say:  "Our lives are going to be so much different."

We are super excited for this new adventure, but we already know we're going to cry when we get on that airplane in a couple months.  We've lived in D.C. for almost the entire nine years we've been married.  We've had countless amazing adventures in D.C.  We've worked our tails off in D.C.  We've had two (almost three) kids in D.C.  We've invested our time and energy to building our community in D.C.  We've had our best jobs in D.C.  We've made incredible, life-long friendships in D.C.  We've played, struggled, failed, succeeded, and spent enormous amounts of time looking for parking in D.C.  We are who we are, as individuals, a couple and a family, in large part because of our time in D.C.  And it's very hard to leave that behind.

What are we most sad to leave behind?  As of right now, and in no particular order:  friends; the Capitol Hill Ward; the Capitol Hill community; a one-of-a-kind job; restaurants; Tennyson's school; unique D.C. experiences/opportunities (museums, sites, events, etc.); a nerdy majority; and probably the pace (though I'm sure that over time we can get used to taking it a bit slower).

Having said that, we are really looking forward to many things in our new life:  more family; a garage; a yard; nature; a garage; outdoor adventures; a kitchen bigger than a coat closet; another good job with potentially better long-term prospects; a garage; and giving our kids the magical western childhood that we loved so much.  We're sure there are other exciting benefits, but so far it's hard to think about anything other than the prospect that we will be able to pull up to our house and park in a garage.

We can't believe it's happening, but it is.  So stay tuned for the next chapter of Ye Stewart Clan -- it's bound to be a wild ride.

This makes me so excited!

...except I might be moving to Dallas in January :(

But if not, then we can be super excited.

Oh you guys. This made me feel so much emotion. I live neither in D.C. or Utah but I feel so much for you in this big decision. I know how much you love the city but oh man, I can't believe you haven't been able to park by your house for 9 years. I remember having to park a street or two away when visiting and thinking - how does Sue do this with groceries and kids!!?? So, amen on the prospect of having a garage. And I'm feeling nostalgic about all the good times we had together on the east coast. And we were only there for 4 years. It WILL be hard for you guys to leave. Remember Suzanne when we had to leave Jerusalem? Oh man. To be honest, I never thought you guys would move to Utah. But then again - with how much you love hiking and biking and climbing - it makes sense. And family. And garages. :) It seems like Suzanne is in Utah half the time anyway. So, I bet she's excited to not have to fly with 3 kids 4 times a year. Oh, I have so much to say about this. I really hope we move to Utah too so we can really be best friends forever... that live close. OK, I just need to call you. Anyway, Jeremy - congrats on being so awesome and such a wanted lawyer. I'm really happy for you. I so agree with your feeling of wanting to show your kids the kind of childhood you had. Ok, we are going to start saving our pennies so we can join you!!

Oh wow. Oh wow. Oh wow. I am filled with so much happiness for you. And I am sad thinking of all of the goodbyes you'll say...perhaps largely because I'll be saying more long-term goodbyes to many of the same folks when we finally make our move West. I know I technically left DC 4.5 years ago, but we visit enough to feel kind of like it is still our home. Once we're in the West, it won't be so easy to pop down for a long weekend. Much luck and our love in all of the fun happening in the next few weeks.

I'm so sad that the Stewart Clan is leaving, but so happy that you'll finally be able to park in a garage and live the good Western life. Best of luck preparing for the move. We'll miss you!

Yeah! Move near us! We live in Sugarhouse and love it. Also if you want Tenny to continue with the Chinese, Granite district has 2 programs and you can opt in no matter where you live. We live in Salt Lake district but our oldest Ethan just started in Granite's spanish immersion program. Just a 10 minute drive. Let me know if you want more info! So excited to have you join us here!

This is so exciting for you guys! We will have to try and get together before you leave. If not, at least we regularly visit SLC! My mom lives in the Canyon Rim neighborhood (and Millcreek Canyon is right there) but I have friends that live in Sugarhouse and the Avenues and love those areas too. You can call if you want to chat more. The possibilities are so fun but we will miss you guys too!

How exciting! I think your first option should be to add slightly to your work commute and move to Eden, Utah. If this isn't feasible, my second choice would be the Avenues are in SLC.

We will be excited to see you more often and congratulations on the Garage.

I also dream of parking in a garage, and I live in SLC. We can't express how excited we are to have you so near. I know this will be heart breaking for you. You have made yourself a good circle of friends in DC. I know you will do the same here. See you soon. BECCA
