He's made some good progress in the last six months.  Way to go Tenny!

4MM - Yesterday was hike day (2.1)

The Four More Miles Hike Club ("4MM") has officially kicked off its second season.  For our inaugural hike of 2013, we climbed Grandeur Peak from Millcreek Canyon.

The hike was really pretty, and the peak itself offers spectacular views of the Wasatch Mountains, the Salt Lake Valley, and down into both Parley's and Millcreek canyon.

This was Tenny's first time to climb an entire mountain, from bottom to summit, without ever needing a lift from his dad.  I was super proud of him.  He has looked up at Grandeur Peak a few times since returning home (we can see it from our house) and proudly proclaimed:  "I climbed that all by myself!"

Ye Stewart Boys at the top.

This is the view to the south as the trail reaches the ridge.  Grandeur Peak is on the far right.

We're only a couple weeks away from our June hike.  We would love to have you join us.  If you're not on the e-mail distribution list and would like to be added, just let us know.

Here's hoping there will always be four more miles!

Phoenix Retreat - 2013

For Jeremy, S&W's annual retreat is a lot like working all weekend.  But for Ye Stewart Ladies, it's a time to retreat to the Sonoran Desert for a weekend of rest, relaxation, and a bit of pampering.

It's also a reminder of just how pleasant it is to be a parent to one child.  After playing third fiddle to two crazy and high-maintenance brothers, Julie deserved some quality attention.  Though, now that we're home, she's wondering where all that personal attention went.

We're big fans of the desert.  We're big fans of retreating.  We're already looking forward to next year.

Tenny started t-ball.

Grandma's bulbs blossomed, as they have for more than 75 years.  (She got these from her mom's garden when she was married.)

Brand new on the Bailey farm.

The law and decency finally meet up in the restroom of an Indian restaurant.

Supplies!  Julie teasing us at Sugarhouse Park.

On top of Ensign Peak.

It's hard to keep up with Tennyson.  In one morning, all before 8:00 a.m., we caught him eating a bowl of pure brown sugar while watching cartoons, and then sneaking a 2-liter into his favorite backyard hiding spot.

We like the way this guy rolls.

Sick Doctor

We really loved Dr. Dickey, and he was one of the reasons we had a hard time leaving DC.  We entrusted our kids to his care for over five years.

It appears that we were really poor judges of character.

Trust us, friends, you never want to see your kids' pediatrician in a courtroom sketch, particularly if he's being charged with crimes against children.  We know some children (not patients, hopefully) were harmed.  We feel grateful that our kids were not.  But we've still been reeling over this one since first learning about it last week.  Shocking.
