4MM - Yesterday Was Hike Day (#5)

For our August hike, the Four More Miles Club turned into more of a father-son adventure.  We hiked Deseret Peak, the tallest mountain in the Stansbury Mountains, way out in the West Desert.  We saw two other people the entire hike.  It was incredible, and all that solitude led us to ask:  If a Stewart makes a joke in the forest and nobody is there to hear it, does he still think he's funny?  (Answer:  Yes.)

The intrepid duo at the summit of Deseret Peak - 11,031 feet

This is an amazing hike and, if you're anywhere near SLC, it should be on your bucket list.  I'm definitely going to do this one again, though next time I might aim for a late-Spring day when the valley below isn't filled with wildfire smoke.

It's not a long hike but it wastes no time in ascending 3,400 feet.  The bottom half is heavily wooded and super pretty.

The top half is pure alpine delight.

Since it was just the two of us, we decided to make it an adventure and turn the hike into a loop (instead of heading down the way we came up).  Somehow the trail disapeared, we got lost, and we ended up bushwacking down a giant, steep slope for about 2,000 verticle feet until we finally found the trail again.

We'll probably be doing one more 4MM hike this season, with the goal of taking in the Autumn colors, so let us know if you're interested in joining us.  Next time we'll try not to get lost.

Julie Day - 31 Weeks

One of our favorite children, Tait (he's in the top 3 at least), decided to smash our Flip video camera this week, so we officially don't have a camera now.  So this is Julie a few weeks back during a recent visit with great-grandma Stewart.

Julie Day - 7 Months

One of the most pleasant surprises of the last seven months is just how much Tenny loves his sister, and how much Julie loves Tenny in turn.  Nobody can make Julie smile and laugh like Tenny can, and Tenny just adores his little sister and she has such a calming effect on him.
Here's a brief video of the two of them during a recent visit to Cafe Rio.

Tenny - Small Business Owner

Small Business Tenny from Jeremy Stewart on Vimeo.

After spending a long, hot Saturday selling lemonade and making money, Tenny walked into the living room all hot and sweaty, with a big smile on his face, and asked:  "Have you seen me on the news?  Sometimes people who sell lemonade are famous and make it on TV."  Yes, Tenny, here's your spot.

Julie Day - 29 Weeks

We officially don't have a camera.  We lost the point-and-shoot at Lake Powell last year, and then our nice DSLR was broken by the baggage handlers on a flight to Las Vegas this week.  Luckily we still have a small video camera, which will have to get us through until we figure out our camera game plan.  Julie doesn't like the video camera as much, nor did she think that this was the kind of attention she needed at this exact moment.  But, at least we have documentation of our sweet little girl at 29 weeks old (at a picnic at Mirror Lake).

Nothing beats a Rocky Mountain high.
