Tennyson dances his way into the news
We recently attended the end-of-school performace at Tenny's fine arts preschool, and the local news was there as well. Thought you might like to see Tenny in action (look for the shirt with blue and green horizontal stripes - his appearances are fleeting). Also, we're shamelessly happy to promote the school/program - we all loved it and can't wait to get our younger kids started.

Retreat to the desert
Beginning to Broil |
Here are a few shots from our recent trip to Phoenix for our first S&W firm retreat. The retreat was at the Phoenician Resort at the base of Camelback Mountain in Scottsdale. We had such a great time - we got to see family, meet new colleagues, eat good food, and relax with Julie Day. We're not sure if it was the pampering or the 100+ degree weather, but all of our stress melted away by the end of the retreat. These photos are from a sunrise-climb of Camelback Mountain.

Julie Day - 4 Months
We celebrated by taking her to a firm-sponsored weekend at a resort/spa in Phoenix, where Julie finally received the long-awaited attention she deserved but couldn't receive due to her infancy being superseded by major life events and two older brothers. It was a great trip (for another post), but the highlight (for her and us) was definitely being able to baby our baby.

The growing pet pressure
Before we got married, I made Suzanne promise me one thing: we would never own a dog. Well, the kids evidently don't believe they are bound by that contract and Tenny has especially been relentless in asking for a dog. I seem to have won that battle (for now), but Tenny has shifted his tactics a bit. This is an actual telephone conversation I had with Tennyson this week --
Dad: Hello?
Tenny: Hi dad, it's me. I know you don't like dogs, but I'm a cat person. You can't cuddle with a fish because they just swim around in their bowls all day. And I need a pet that I can cuddle with.
Dad: How about a chicken?
Tenny: No dad, chickens don't have fuzzy fur. I think a cat would be best because they are furry and you can cuddle them and you can run around with them and play chase.
Dad: Can we talk about this tonight when I get home from work?
Tenny: Yes. And I know you don't like poop and fur, but some cats are very clean and they can do tricks and they're fun for kids and stuff.
Dad: Did your mom tell you to say all this?
Tenny: Yes. I mean no. I really want a cuddly pet and if you let me get a cat then mommy and I will go to the store and buy you an ice cream cone.
Dad: That sounds like a decent deal, but can I think about it and then talk to you about it tonight when I get home from work?
Tenny: OK, bye.
Dad: I love you. Bye.
Tenny: I love you too, dad. Bye.
As a lawyer, I couldn't be more proud of my son's persuasive abilities. But don't let the superb nature of his arguments fool you - he's still as crazy as ever.
Also, that hat, which Tenny made at his pre-school, totally reminds me of the best sit-com ever:
"Maybe you're not smart either! I didn't know until they told me."

Like father like son.
This week, Tait's Sunday best was his dad's Sunday best from 32 years ago -- an outfit made for Jeremy by his aunt Betty Lou.
We would love to find a picture of little Jeremy sporting this outfit, though it would probably look identical to these shots of Tait.

4MM - Yesterday was hike day (#2)
And boy was it great! For our May hike, the Four More Miles Club ventured up Bell Canyon to Lower Falls. It was a beautiful day to hike a beautiful canyon, and the heavy spring run-off made Lower Falls a spectacular destination.
Lower Falls
We're already looking forward to our June hike. As always, if you're interested in joining us, just let us know and we'll send you the details via email.

Free Legal Advice: Utah Code 10-8-101
Utah Code Section 10-8-101, concerning the "PUBLIC SAFETY REGULATION OF MOONWALKERS," has been repealed.
You can moon walk all you want, you crazy kids. So much for public safety.

The Five-Second Picnic
We tried to have an impromptu family picnic at Silver Lake, but we were woefully unprepared for how cold it still is at that elevation.
After one bite and one shutter click, we darted back to the minivan and returned for a family picnic in our back yard. We're still getting used to this mountain/elevation thing again.

A journey to exotic places is exciting...
...but nothing beats the nostalgic journey of repeating one of your childhood memories with your son.
